Communication

The communication this week has been about discussing the concepts made by Daniel such as the bear, the crocodile and the jack in the box. We as a team provided some feedback on the concepts but specifically the bear concept as it was designed with legs too long. The crocodile had two designs and we liked this design that had the wind-down key on the head of the crocodile.

Enemy Effects on Player

One of the ideas on the effects of enemies on the player is that the flashlight would start to flicker when around the enemy as well as the battery drain. We decided to scrap this as much as it is a good idea, it wasn't in the pre-production plan and it was out of scope for the game designers of the game to script.

Game Name

The team and I were deciding on the name of the game as using "Pediophobia" wasn't a great title so we came up with "ToyTopia". I decided to make a table on miro that outlines where toys would be placed in each area. This includes specific information for each toy and what their effects would be on the player.

Animation Discussion

The team concluded that there needed to be a Crocodile animation to indicate to the player that the enemy was coming toward the player without showing the entire body in the ball pit area and one way was to have the wind-up part of the Crocodile turn up and down along with using sounds of a crocodile throat waiting for the player.

Blockout Settings

I had come into blockout issues with the blackouts not aligning properly which was due to a lack of communication to the team explaining that the members working on the project needed to have these blockout settings for the most part. As long as the value was half or the same value as it is right now.

Level Design Feedback

After receiving feedback from my tutor Brian about the lack of elevation in the level, I came up with ideas of how I can improve them along with references to follow along with.

  • Upstairs of Toy Store

  • platforms above the ground floor of the Warehouse

Alongside making the upstairs of the toy store from references, I had help from Dayna, who is the Environment layout artist for this project created a layout for the ground floor and upstairs of the toy store. So we collaborated together to mix and match ideas made. The warehouse platforms were later removed this week as it wasn't needed for the area.
